近年來因線上投稿與出版的盛行，許多文章在獲接受後即線上公開，尚未確定最終刊登的卷期，致使部份文章的線上早期公開 (Early Access，以下簡稱 EA ) 年份早於正式出版年份 (Publication Year，以下簡稱 PY)。過去這類文章在 Journal Citation Reports (以下簡稱 JCR) 資料庫中，統一以 PY 認定該文章的所屬年份。自 2021 年版的 JCR (2020 年資料) 起，EA 年在 2020 年以後的文章，將會依 EA 年認定其所屬年份。(EA 年在 2019 年以前的文章，仍依 PY 認定)
