英國現代主義文學家維吉尼亞·吳爾芙 Virginia Woolf

今天 Google Doodle 紀念英國作家維吉尼亞·吳爾芙（Virginia Woolf，1882-1941）的136歲誕辰，吳爾芙生於倫敦貴族書香世家「史蒂芬家族」，她的父親是名歷史學家萊斯利斯蒂芬爵士（Leslie Stephen）。維吉尼亞·吳爾芙被譽為二十世紀現代主義與女性主義的先鋒，在一戰與二戰的戰間期，她是倫敦文學界的核心人物，也曾參加作家組成的「布盧姆斯伯裏團體」（The Bloomsbury Group）。

由於社會壓抑與個性自由之間的衝突、來自雙親的舊傳統和新女性意識之間的混雜與對峙，在1895到1904年之間，維吉尼亞·吳爾芙經歷三次精神崩潰。她在小說中嘗試意識流的寫作方法，試圖去描繪在人們心底的潛意識，她留下了9部長篇小說和無數短篇作品、2卷評論集，6卷書信集、5卷日記，在1941年二戰砲火炸毀住處，她寫完最後一部小說《Between the Acts》並留下給夫婿的遺書之後，投河自盡，令人遺憾。
